Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Urban development and housing policies are key to addressing the growing demand for residential spaces, especially in rapidly urbanizing areas like Bida Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State. As the population grows, there is an increasing need for affordable, sustainable housing solutions that align with urban planning and development goals. Housing is not only a social issue but also an economic one, as it impacts workforce productivity, social stability, and local commerce.
Bida, a significant urban center in Niger State, has faced challenges with rapid urbanization, inadequate housing, and insufficient infrastructure. In response, various housing policies have been implemented to improve the urban environment and provide affordable housing options for residents. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of these policies in promoting urban development and addressing housing deficits in Bida.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
